Stuff you think you should ask – but really, don’t

February 6, 2014

ImageInterviewing candidates for a particular position is key to putting the right person in the right place – getting one to fit in with your group and contribute in every way.

Will the questions you ask get you the person right for the job?

The Deadly Questions

You want to know all about the person in front of you.  You ask these things:

  1. What have you been (job titles) in the past?
  2. Have you ever been arrested?
  3. How many children do you have?
  4. When did you graduate?
  5. What clubs are you involved with?

Clearly, we all know that these are the most lethal things to ask – because they are illegal! And they can wind you up in trouble you don’t need.  You can find a myriad of places on the internet, like here for instance, to help you steer clear of those pitfalls.

 The Blind Alley Questions

These types of questions will lead you into to a tongue-tied state.  This puts

  1. Are you a good/hard worker?
  2. Do you work well with other people?
  3. We require dedicated staff members, are you that sort of person?
  4. Do you consider you are enthusiastic?
  5. Are you a team player?

Again, these may be things you want to know, but the yes/no aspect of questions like this can leave you at a dead end.  Now what do you say?  Are they lying?

 So, then what?

What you want is a question that invokes participation from the person, while giving you the information you need.  Obviously you would first need to determine what you really need in an employee.  Things like motivation, loyalty, productivity

But what are the keys to interview questions that you really need to know?  Well we have them and you can get them too.  For a small fee of  $75.00 you’ll not only get the keys to interview questions but much more.  What to ask when doing reference checks; how to conduct the interview and all with summaries and forms you can use to better your interviews.  Just email me and I’ll arrange the rest for you!
